Hi there.
Currently, in India, the job opportunities for clinical psychologists are vast. India has somewhere around 900 Clinical Psychologists and the Mental health epidemic is literally eating all of the country. Close to 15 million individuals are battling with some or other form of mental illness and the numbers of clinical psychologists available is way too less to treat these many individuals.
The stats above are enough to show that Clinical Psychologists can never go unemployed in this country.
First of all, one can have their own practice as clinical psychologists. Next, one can work in Private hospitals or in government hospitals with Psychiatrists in the team to treat patients. There are many schools, NGOs, industrial organizations that hire psychologists for the overall mental well being of students, and individuals, Other than all this, you could also become a professor at a college by clearing the UGC NET examinations.
Coming to the salary part, in private practice, beginner licensed clinical psychologist cost around Rs. 800-1000 per session. An average number of sessions per client can be 6. So, from here you can calculate how much you'd be making in a month.
In private hospitals a beginner licensed clinical psychologist is paid anything around Rs. 25000-35000 per month. NGOs, schools, organizations pay according to their requirement, time you devote, etc.
A UGC NET qualified Professor gets somewhere around a salary of Rs. 40000.
Also, the name of the institute from where you complete your MPhil matters a lot when it comes to your salary. A person completing MPhil from NIMHANS would be paid way more than someone who did their MPhil from a private university. I hope you are aware of the fact that after completing your Masters you will have to complete your MPhil in order to get your license for practicing and in order to get registered with the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI). At NIMHANS, MPhil (Clinical Psychology) candidates get a stipend of Rs.25000 per month.
The numbers given above are not exact figures but may give you a rough idea of the salary you might withdraw.
Hope you find this information helpful.
All the best.
