Hey there,
If you mean “what is the lowest rank at which I can get any IIT?”, there is no single fixed minimum rank. It depends on the IIT, branch, category, gender pool, and year.
For 2026, IIT admission is through JEE Advanced + JoSAA. You must first qualify JEE Advanced; then your JEE Advanced rank determines which IIT/branch you can get.
Rough idea for General/Open category
- Under 1,000: Top IITs and highly demanded branches possible.
- 1,000–5,000: Many IIT options, including strong branches at several IITs.
- 5,000–10,000: IIT seat is still possible, but branch choices become more limited.
- 10,000–15,000: Some IITs/less-demanded branches may be available.
- 15,000–20,000+: Possibilities become increasingly dependent on branch and seat category; some IIT programs can close at relatively high ranks.
