Hello Nisha,
According to the established guidelines,CLAT isn't about passing with the minimum marks. It is about scoring a good percentile in order for a student to score the dream spot in the college of their choice. The minimum marks required to clear the exam keeps changing every year. It depends on how much the topper has scored. The cut offs of NLUs starts from there. If the topper scores a considerably high percentile, then cut offs are high, and vice versa. Score doesn't matter, percentile does. For example, in CLAT 2016, the topper scored around 186, so a person with 120 marks couldn't get any NLU. While in 2017, a candidate with 120 marks were able to get in the top 10 NLUs. In 2017 the topper’s score was 152 . So as you can see, this is how it works. It all depends how students generally perform in the test. CLAT has never had a minimum specific mark or cut off to qualify the examination per se. It's always flexible.
To get into the NLU of your choice, your rank should be within 1000 or so. If you wish to get into one of the top 3 colleges in the country it should be within 200 or so. All this is for a general category seat. For further inquiries into CLAT cutoffs and other useful information, you can check out the link below. Good luck!
