what is the purpose and theme of the epic

If you talk about the Indian mythology there are only two great epics- Mahabharata and ramayana. Buddha's epics defects and key values of our lives and some moral teachings which every human being should implement in order to live his life in a ideal way.

The teachings of ramayan all details with the values of a man and how he is bound to to do his duties under any circumstance. Mahabharata mainly deals with the teachings of worship before self and to follow the path of Dharma in every situation.
