Hello!
MBA in Finance is one of the core MBA programmes and is offered in most b-schools. It is one of the most sought after courses especially in the IIMs. There is certainly a lot of scope in this sector.
My program included the following five Finance courses:
Corporate Finance
Financial Decision Making
Financial Markets
Investment Management
Financial Management- an advanced course and the capstone course in Finance. This included analyzing and presenting two cases/week.
In addition to the above, I took several courses in other fields related to Finance. These included :
Financial Accounting
Management Accounting
Business Income Taxation
Financial Statement Analysis
International Finance
International Banking
The capstone course for all MBA students- Strategic Management, also included some finance elements. I got waivers for 6 courses, including two economics courses, based on work completed in other programs and, in one case, experience.
I majored in Finance not because I was working in the field, but because of a strong personal interest in Finance. I had already established my management consulting career, when I went in mid career to complete my MBA. In my case the main reason and benefit of the program was to gain the additional credential of the MBA.
I was starting my own consulting firm coincident with the MBA, and I felt my consulting practice would be more impressive to my clients, most of whom had advanced degrees on their end. I enjoyed and did very well in the MBA program and felt it re-energized my consulting career.
I trust this addresses what you meant by scope.
Thanks,
Azim
