What mindset is required to understanding a concept and how to approach towards the question

while understanding a concept in-depth knowledge of the topic is required you will never be able to understand what author is saying if you do not get knowledge of the entire writing. so, i suggest you to read all that you have with whole concentration. after then you must understand

• why the author is saying this?
• what is he implying with the text?

diagrams, notes, images etc will help you to understand the entire concept on fingertips.

you can approach the question once you get familiarised with the context of the text. the best way of understanding a theory is by discussing it with people.
