If you get 99.5 percentile, the you can get into the top three NITs. For getting that percentile, you must get 200 to 220 marks (probably) in 2021.
I think it doesn't make much difference between general and ews by 2021 since most of the students even who are not deserved to get ews are applying for ews.

To get into top 3 NIT and also cse branch. The candidate belonging to general and ews category must have to score more than 99.5 percentile.
For ews category 96 + percentile score.
For these percentile your marks must be more than 280 .
