what should be my percentile in cat to get IIM- A if I've 93 % in 10 & 90 % in 12 & 8 cgpa in engineering????

IIM A promotes diversity and therefore its tough for an engineer to get into A these days. During my time IIM A changed the cutoff to minimum 90% for engineers. And so even after I got 99.54 percentile and had good acads but not 90% in engineering I did not get a call from IIM A. I got a call for the Agro program at IIM A though. So, it depends upon what the criteria is for that particular year when you are giving CAT. The criteria changes every year and so I would recommend you try and get your CGPA higher as well.

But at the same time keep your options open. With a 99+ percentile you can have calls from IIM C, L, I and K and they are top IIMs too. You can get a call from FMS as well and it's among the top institutes Evey year. IIM B generally shortlists freshers but you can expect a call if you have a high percentile. Aim for a high percentile. That way you will get calls from plenty of good colleges and not only IIM A.

You have good past academic record and to get into IIM A the selection process includes AWT that is Academic Writing test and Personal interview after they get shortlisted from CAT entrance.

IIM A considers minimum sectional cutoff and therefore in each section you will be required to get the minimum as explained in the table below:

You can easily score 10/10 for past academics as you have 90-90 above percentage in your 10th, 12th.

Even 99 percentile ones are not confirmed to get a call for further rounds so because you have good academics then focus on getting 99.7 percentile (general candidate) and above and definitely you can make it to IIM A.

Your academics are excellent and will definitely be an advantage for you against other candidates.

IIM Ahmedabad does profile based shortlisting and emphasise on promoting diversity in its campus and hence it is tougher for engineers to get through. Also there are good number of applicants with prior Workex who also have an advantage over other candidates.

Hence it is suggested to score as much as you can, close to 99.9 to secure an interview call from IIM A. In the meanwhile also create a good CV for you.
