For a basic foundation in science, you may go through NCERT books, that's written in lucid and simple style, easily understandable. Generally, Lucent books is preferred by aspirants for static portion of General Awareness or even science for this matter. For dynamic portion, reading newspaper on a daily basis is the best thing, nothing can beat this one. You can go for monthly magazines or compilations in various sites provided in the form of pdf.
