when chloroform react with acetone
Hello,
Chloroform combines with acetone in the presence of potassium hydroxide to give chloretone, which is used as a sleep producing (hypnotic) drug. O of acetone has lone pair so carbon of chloroform will attack at C of C=O, π bond breaks, negative charge on O, H will attack at O - and form OH and CCl 3 will attack C to form chloroetone.
