In the field of Engineering no doubt IIT and NIT are the best but there are some other colleges also which has same potential as it is such as BITS Pilani VIT apart from that it does not provide courses on all departments therefore in some departments some other universities be very good.

Yeah !! The IITs are top first and later NITs are best while to get these colleges you need get the good score in jee main while of the private university they have there own college exam like BITS has BITSAT you need write them

IITs are the best institutes not for the facilities,but because the best of the brains go there and there is a lot of talent in IITs.
NITs just come after that,People who do not get IITs or do not get there preferred streams in IITs go for NITs.
So it is second fiddle to IITs.
And then comes the private institutes which boasts of better facilities that government colleges but due to not so superior student quality,they usually come after the government institutes in rankings.
The best among them is BITs Pilani which competes with IITs when it comes to quality.
Then there are more institutes like VIT,Manipal which has a mix of both good and bad.
So you need to choose which one will suit you.
