Yes banking exam preparation is definitely helpful for IAS preparation.
It is not about average student preparing for it. You should the syllabus and paper pattern very well and then accordingly decide if you are interested to go ahead.
Even you can give previous year papers and judge what level of preparation you require and where actually you stand.
Whole syllabus of banking exams comes under the ambit of IAS exams syllabus. Like GK, aptitude, reasoning, English.
Remember just syllabus or course content but not the exam pattern.
Also IAS exams are way ahead in toughness and answering pattern than banking ,so this would be not be a fair comparison though.
But here comes the main point, IAS is anything way ahead than banking exam or banking syllabus with more wider syllabus requiring more insightful preparation with much wider topics to cover like Economy, Indian and world history, International relations etc.
You have to prepare smartly and analytically.
Hope this helps!
Good luck.

IAS exams are way ahead in toughness and answering pattern than banking. Syllabus is almost same like Gk, Aptitude, Reasoning, English. The only area to put extra effort for bank exams is Economy,Indian and world history,International relations etc & Speed. So you need to work on that. If you are well prepared for IAS you are already prepared for giving banking Exams.
Good Luck!
