If you are preparing for IIT, the first rule of thumb you should do is clear all concepts. NCERT books are considered very reliable for that purpose, as they come with a lot of example questions and solutions. Also, at the end of the chapters, you will find questions sets that you can practice to build insight and improve problem solving skills. After you are done with NCERT books, you may move onto advanced books like JD LEE,  roblems in Calculus of One Variable by I.A. Maron, Numerical Chemistry by P. Bahadur, Problems in General Physics by I.E. Irodov, to build on your skills.
