There isn't one best class in Pune, but there are four questions that separate a good fit from an expensive mistake. Ask every institute you shortlist:
1. Who actually teaches the batch? Not who is on the website — who stands in front of your child on a Tuesday. Big chains rotate faculty between centres and the senior names in the brochure often teach only the top batch. Ask for the names, ask how long they have been there, and ask to sit through one lecture.
2. How are board and entrance preparation scheduled? If they run as two separate courses you pay for the same Physics twice and your child loses the evening hours that should go to problem practice. An integrated timetable is not a marketing word — ask to see the actual weekly schedule.
3. What is the batch size, and what is the size of the batch your child will be in? Institutes quote an average. The average is meaningless if the top batch has 30 and the one you are offered has 120.
4. What happens after a bad test? Every student has one. The answer to this question tells you more about an institute than its result board does. Ask what the doubt-clearing mechanism is, who owns it, and how quickly it happens.
On the result boards generally: selection counts mean very little without the denominator. An institute with 5,000 students and 50 selections is doing worse than one with 200 students and 10. Always ask what percentage of the batch those numbers came from, and whether the toppers listed were students who joined in Std 11 or arrived in Std 12 already scoring well.
For Pune specifically, decide first whether you want a national chain or a local institute. The chains have better material and more test infrastructure. A long-standing local class usually has more stable faculty and knows the HSC and CBSE board patterns in this state properly, which matters if your child is also targeting MHT-CET.
We're one of the local ones , teaching science students since 1983. Whichever way you go, do the four checks above before you pay a deposit.
(Disclosure: I run Kaulguds Academy in Aundh, so treat the last paragraph as an interested opinion. The rest of this applies whichever class you pick.)
Pune is one of the major education centres in Maharashtra and many students come from outside of city or even Maharashtra to get a quality education from Pune. Some of the major coaching classes of Pune that cater to JEE and NEET students are as follows:
Bakliwal Tutorials
M. Prakash Institute
Allen Career Institute
IITian’s Prashikshan Kendra
Prime Academy
Hope I have answered your question. All the best!
