Other than CAT, XAT is one of the known MBA exam which is especially conducted to get admission in a top institute XLRI. The score of XAT along with CAT exam is also used by many reputated private colleges in order to admit students.
Other than that there are other exams conducted by top private colleges for admission in their college like SNAP for symbiosis, IIFT for Indian Institute of foreign trade college both in Kolkata and Delhi, NMAT for Narsee Monjee.
Other than these there are CET, CMAT and MAT exams whose scores help you in getting various state colleges.
If you are looking forward to pursue your MBA degree abroad then there is GMAT exam. This exam also help you in getting enrolled in one of the best B-school in India i.e. ISB Hyderabad and Chandigarh.
See getting a good salary and a establish career depends on which college you're going and then your individual performance. Going through various exams opens up various paths for you but in the end it will be your performance and your choice. one more question sir,im a Mechanical engineer with average academic can I get into top b School and MBA is better for me ,will I get good salary and career growth??
See pursuing MBA degree is your personal choice of changing your career path. I was also an engineer and turned for MBA. I came for MBA because after completing my engineering from IIT Roorkee i found out that engineering is not my cup of tea and also I was passionate about working in corporate world especially in market sector.
And you don't need to worry if you are changing your path because in MBA schools around 80% students are engineers.
Regarding your average performance could be an obstacle for your entrance in good B-school because every college has its own criteria with different weightages for making an aggregate score to call up a student for next round of interview. To improve your aggregate score in order to get call from reputated college you need to get a very high percentile.
In the later stage with your essay writing and personal interview you can improve your aggregate score because these two have max weightage.
Right now focus on getting a very high percentile.
