Several IITs now offer specialized
BTech
programs in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Science, and admission to these courses is granted through JEE Advanced ranks. Based on 2025 Round 6 (final round) closing ranks for the General (gender-neutral) category, the competition for these programs varies significantly across institutes.
At the top end, IIT Madras closed its
BTech
in Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics at around rank 306, making it the most competitive AI program. IIT Hyderabad followed with a closing rank near 861, while IIT Roorkee and IIT Kharagpur closed around 845 and 953 respectively. IIT Guwahati’s Data Science and AI program closed at approximately 1,078.
Mid-range options included IIT Gandhinagar at about 2,236 and IIT Ropar near 3,500. Other relatively accessible AI programs were offered by IIT Mandi (around 3,928), IIT Jodhpur (around 4,212), and IIT Patna (around 4,312). Overall, candidates typically need a top 4,500 JEE Advanced rank to secure a specialized AI/Data Science branch in newer IITs, while top IITs require a rank well under 1,000.
