While giving improvement exam for jee mains can't i opt the additional subject as my fifth choice or the main sub is necessary to choose?

It is not mandatory for you to write the improvement exam in all the five subjects.
But if you want to be in top 20 percentile, then you may apply for the improvement exam in all the five subjects.
