Dantidurga was a Rashtrakuta chief who turned out to be a kshatriya after performing a ritual known as hiranya-garbha. He was also known as Dantivarman. Rashtrakuta dynasty had power in Karnataka region of India with Gulbarga as its capital.
When Dantidurga defeated Chalukyas, he was titled as Rajadhiraja and Parameshvara.

In the Deccan, Dantidurga was the Rashtrakuta chief. The Chalukyas of Karnataka were once the superiors to the Rashtrakutas. In the middle of the ninth century, Dantidurga deposed his Chalukya master and carried out the "hiranya-garbha" ceremony. Even if the sacrificer was not a kshatriya by birth, it was believed that he would become one upon his reincarnation.
