Hello,
The merchant navy is a term used to refer to the commercial sector of the maritime industry.
- The merchant navy has no involvement in military service, but rather the shipping of cargo and people across sea routes aboard cargo ships, tankers, and cruise liners.
- Merchant Navy is both a private and a public sector job.
- There are many private companies which are a part of the Merchant Navy.
- If you are working with Shipping Corporation of India (SCI), you come under the government sector.
- The minimum age is 17 years and the maximum is 25 years to be eligible for examinations pertaining to the merchant navy. As per the Government rules, the maximum age relaxation for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes is 5 years
After completing class 12th with 60% in PCM, you can appear for Indian Maritime University Common Entrance Test (IMU CET) or All India Merchant Navy Examination to get into merchant navy courses. Apart from these two courses, you can also get into Marine engineering with JEE, TIMSAT and MERI Entrance Exam.
Hope this helps!!!
