    Admission Details

    • All the applicants shall have to appear for Uttaranchal University Research Entrance Examination (UURET). The validity of the UURET shall be for one year. Candidates may be provisionally enrolled if they are selected through the UURET entrance test, followed by an interview by a sub-committee comprising at least 3 members as constituted by the Vice-Chancellor. The registration in PhD research shall only be confirmed after satisfactory completion of the coursework and approval of the research plan/synopsis on the basis of the presentation given by the candidate before the RAC/RDC.
    • Students who have qualified UGC-NET (including JRF)/UGC-CSIR NET (including JRF)/SLET/GATE/GPAT/Similar national level test holders will be exempted from the Entrance Examination, and only through a valid entrance examination will be exempted from UURET. All students have to appear in the interview before a sub-committee comprising at least 3 members, as constituted by the Vice-Chancellor. Weightage of NET/Similar national-level test will be 70%, and 30% weightage will be given to the interview only. Priority will be given to NET/Similar national-level test-qualified candidates.
    • University shall decide ona year-to-year basis the number of PhD scholars to be admitted program/faculty-wise, depending on the number of available Research Supervisors and other academic and physical facilities available, the norms regarding the scholar- teacher ratio, laboratory, library and such other facilities. University will notify the number of seats for admission, subject/discipline-wise distribution of available seats, criteria for admission, procedure for admission, examination centre(s) where entrance test(s) shall be conducted and all other relevant information well in advance for the benefit of the candidates/other stakeholders/public at large.
    • University will follow the reservation policy of the Central Government/Uttarakhand State Government for admission in Ph.D. program in place and formulated from time to time.

    Eligibility Criteria

    An applicant possessing any one of the following qualifications shall be eligible to apply for admission to a Ph.D. program of the University.

    • A 2-year/4-semester master’s degree or equivalent in the concerned or allied subject with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale, wherever the grading system is followed.
      Or
    • A 1-year/2-semester master’s degree or equivalent in the concerned or allied subject with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale, wherever the grading system is followed after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree Program.
      Or
    • 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree or equivalent in the concerned or allied subject with a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale.

    • M.Phil. degree with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale, wherever the grading system is followed.
    • A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled.

    The Candidates who possess the qualifications as mentioned below:-

    Bachelors/Masters Degree in any discipline with at least 45%* marks in aggregate from Panjab University or any other University recognized by Bar Council of India and Panjab University.

    In case of a candidate having a Bachelors degree of this University or any other University recognized by the Syndicate, through Modern Indian Languages (Hindi or Urdu or Punjabi (Gurmukhi Script) and/or in a Classical Language (Sanskrit or Persian or Arabic) the aggregate of 45% marks shall be calculated by taking into account the percentage of aggregate marks that he had secured at the language examination, excluding the marks for additional optional paper, English and the elective subject taken together.
    *5% concession is admissible in eligibility marks to SC/ST/BC/PwD candidates.
