• Notification on admission will be updated in the month of January separately on VIT website
• Qualified UCEED (Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design) score is mandatory for admission.
• Admission will be done on Merit basis for which the merit list will be prepared based on marks obtained in qualifying examination and UCEED Score.
• The candidates short-listed based on their merit will be called for the counselling
• The fact that a candidate has qualified and has been called for the counselling does not guarantee admission to him / her. This depends upon the performance in the Skill Test and the availability of seats
• The selection list will be prepared based on the performance in the Interview/Skill Test at the time of counselling
• The number of seats and the mode of selection is purely at the discretion of the Management

Admission to undergraduate programmes in all IITs is tied to the Indian Institute of Technology Joint Entrance Examination (IIT-JEE). Candidates who qualify for admission through IIT-JEE can apply for admission in four-year B.Tech (Bachelor of Technology) degree at IIT Kharagpur.

Only candidates who have the following credentials shall be eligible for admission to B.Des.(Industrial Design) Course. 

• Candidates who have studied in regular, full time and formal education alone are eligible to apply
• Candidates who have passed XII Board examination or equivalent with a minimum aggregate of 60% marks and with subjects Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are eligible to apply
• Candidates who have passed XII Board examination or equivalent with a minimum aggregate of 50% marks and with subjects Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are eligible to apply for the following categories:
  1. Candidates belonging to SC/ST
  2. Candidates hailing from Jammu & Kashmir / Ladakh and the North Eastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura.
  3. Candidates must have a valid UCEED Score

• The final examination of the 10+2 system, conducted by a Central or State Board recognized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
• Intermediate or two-year Pre-University examination conducted by a Board or University recognized by the Association of Indian Universities.
• The final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy.
• Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with a minimum of five subjects.
• Any Public School, Board or University examination in India or in a foreign country recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the AIU.
• H.S.C. vocational examination.
• A Diploma recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) or a State Board of Technical Education of at least 3 years duration.
• General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London, Cambridge or Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level.
• High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.

Candidates who have completed Class XII (or equivalent) examination outside India or from a Board not specified above should produce a certificate from the AIU to the effect that the examination they have passed is equivalent to the Class XII examination.
