As you mentioned your academics score,it is below than average and also you dont have any work experience.So,I would suggest you to give CAT exam next year.But i would also suggest you to do some job with preparing for CAT,because along with percentile and academics marks,your job experience

the basic eligibility criteria for b.ed course is you need to have a graduate degree in either, b.a or.b.com (//or.b.com) or b.sc course in any discipline with 50% marks in graduation. however some institutes offers admission on the basis of graduation marks. see you did not mention the entrance

If project is done then you must have finished your course as 99% of the Engineering Colleges conduct the project work in 8th Semester.
But coming to the placement issue then you can get get placed in or after 7th Semester i.e when you enter your 7th Semester.
