You can start by finding out the square root of 5 by division method and keep calculating for up-to 6 or more places of decimal (Eg: 2.23606798). Then at the end you need to mention: Since the given answer upto 8 places of decimal ( as shown in brackets) is non-recurring and non-repetitive, therefore it must be an irrational number. The second approach would be to prove it by contradictory method. For this you need to assume that root 5 is rational at first.
So it can be expressed in the form p/q where p,q are co-prime integers and q≠0.
⇒√5=p/q On squaring both the sides we get,
⇒5=p²/q²
⇒5q²=p² —————–(i)
p²/5= q²
So 5 divides p
p is a multiple of 5
⇒p=5m
⇒p²=25m² ————-(ii)
From equations (i) and (ii), we get,
5q²=25m²
⇒q²=5m²
⇒q² is a multiple of 5
⇒q is a multiple of 5
Hence, p,q have a common factor 5. This contradicts our assumption that they are co-primes. Therefore, p/q is not a rational number.
This contradicts our given assumption. So, root 5 is an irrational number.

the basic eligibility criteria to get admission for the course B.Com (//B.Com) hons in ethiraj college is candidate must have completed their 10+2 from recognized board with subjects having accountancy ,commerce/business studies , mathematics/business mathematics and candidate must have secure a minimum aggregate of 75 percent marks in these three subjects altogether.

CA training involves three main stages-

1. CPT (Common Proficiency Test)
2. IPCC (Integrated Professional Competence Course)
3. CA Final Examination

Mathematics subject and its concepts will come handy while facing CPT and CA Final. Topics like integration, derivatives, Interest (Simple & Compound) etc are involved in CPT stage. Similarly, in the CA Final stage, Financial Management too has lot to do with mathematics subject.Technically, students from any stream (after 10+2) are eligible to pursue CA training.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA :

• According to the rules set by ICAI, students who have passed 10+2 board examination (any stream) or any Graduation course (from a recognized University) are eligible to undergo CA training. There is no mention of mathematics as a compulsory subject.
• This means that students who haven’t had mathematics subject are also eligible to pursue CA training.
• Sure, mathematics doesn’t play a crucial role in eligibility criteria. But the subject sure is involved in the Proficiency Test and Final Level. To get a better idea about the involvement of mathematics subject, let us check out various stages involved in CA training.
