It's not like only Graduates from IIT's or NIT's are successful. Colleges like SRM, BITS, MIT are also good and provide really good opportunities for the students. If you want to pursue Aerospace Engineering then both SRM & Chandigarh University don't have a good placement record.

Aerospace Engineering is not mandatory to join ISRO. If you want to do engineering after 12th and after want to join ISRO then you can pursue B.Tech/ B.E. any of the following specialization-

So, with regard of you're query. You can pursue Aerospace Engineering after earning your Mechanical Engineering diploma. Candidates with a diploma are eligible to study engineering under the lateral entrance program.
