i have got 577 rank in amrita engineering entrance examination can i get cse or cse (artificial intelligence) in Coimbatore

Nikhitha Sai 2nd Sep, 2020

Hello student. 577 rank is a pretty good one for you to fetch a seat in computer science in coimbatore. The cut off for computer science last year went till 1900. This is the closing rank for computer science in open quota.

So this year, the closing rank might definitely increase since it depends on number of applicants, the number of students attending counselling so on and so forth. you will definitely get through. When it comes to other campuses like banglore or kerala, you have a higher chances to get computer science.

what is the difference between Btech Artificial Intelligence and Data Science vs BTech Computer Science and Business System???scopes for both courses and the salary offered per annum for both??Which is preferable Btech AI &DS or Btech CS&BS??

Mohit Gupta 22nd Jul, 2020

Hello Aspirant

The Main Difference is :-

  • CSE: Computer science engineers are involved in many aspects of computing, from the design of individual microprocessors, personal computers and supercomputers to circuit designing and writing software that powers them.
  • IT: Information Technology deals with the use of electronic computers and computer software to store, protect process, transmit and securely retrieve data. IT professionals perform a variety of tasks that range from installing applications to designing complex computer networks and information databases.

The major  difference between both these field is that IT deals with the application of computing technology to real life processes, while, Computer Science deals with the science that facilitates these applications. To make it short and simple, Computer Science is the creation of software and hardware by using different programming skills. On the other hand, IT is just the selection of the proper software or hardware for the task.

Difference in course and core areas:

  • CSE: Computer Science engineering students study about design, implementation, and management of information system of both software and hardware processes. Students pursuing computer science study: Algorithms and Data Structure, Architecture, Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, Database and Information Retrieval, Human-Computer Communication, Numerical and Symbolic Computation, Operating Systems, Programming Languages and Software Methodology and Engineering.
  • IT: Information Technology deals with installation, development and implementation of computer systems and applications. Under this stream, students learn the following: Data Structures and Algorithms, Microprocessors and Interfacing, Computer Communication and Networking, Database Systems, Internet Technologies and Applications, Software Engineering etc.

Career scope:

  • CSE: Job openings for Software professionals is much higher in the corporate sector than in public sector. Professionals can join as junior programmer, database administrator, junior network manager, Data Analyst, Software Developer, Software Engineer, and Client-Server Systems Manager etc in the initial stage. Students have job opportunities at organizations like IBM, Intel, HP, TCS, INFOSYS, WIPRO, TECHMAHINDRA,CTS and Dell in India and abroad.
  • IT: Career options after B.Tech in Information Technology are good. IT Specialists are required in almost all range of employment fields such as finance, arts, medicine, defense, and other areas. Many opportunities are available in various IT firms all over India. Some of the leading IT Companies are Infosys, TCS, Wipro, Accenture, HCL Infotech, IBM, etc.  These professional can get jobs in many public sector firms. Some of the leading public sector firms are BSNL, ISRO, CDIT, CDAC, etc.

I hope this information would be helpful for you.

All the best

should I get into artificial intelligence and Machine learning career with zero coding and programming skills from mechanical engineering background

Sonali Sahu Student Expert 30th Aug, 2020

Hello

yeah Sure. why not?

programming language used for ML and AI is completely different from C or C++. You have to learn Python/R which will make you familiar how code is written. Write simple programs like adding numbers, solving equations then factorial, sorting, searching, using data structures and then go for complex algorithms. You will be fluent in the programming. then start with ML first. you will learn the algorithms like Linear algorithms, probability and statistics, theorem and you will implement them to solve real time problems to predict or find out possible outcomes.

with minimum time of 1 year , you can learn all. follow free course from udemy, Udacity. YOu will learn all the basics. for practice, use dataquest.

Hope it helps!

I have taken CSE(Artificial intelligence) which chapters should we be perfect in 12th class

s.pooh07 16th Jul, 2020

Hi,

I believe you have taken Computer Science and Engineering with specialization in Artificial Intelligence.

In B.Tech, even though you have narrowed down to Artificial Intelligence, most of the times the specialization specific courses are only taken up in the second half of your 2nd year or 3rd year of your college.

In the first year, the courses for all the students of B.Tech are almost the same.

And there are no specific chapters in your 12th Grade that you have to be perfect with, in order to do well in college. Although, if you have taken up Computer Science by any change in your 12th class; it would be helpful to brush up those skills. This will be useful as you will be starting to learn various programming languages.

You can also take online courses from Udemy and Coursera to get a head start.

Hope this helps, All the Best!

Disha Arora 15th Jul, 2020

Dear Aspirant,

Every profession is a brilliant profession provided you are a brilliant exponent of it. Technological progress brings in newer areas of development and the fields you have stated are an outcome of that progress.  We will give you an insight to each field and then you need to see where you fit in:

Artificial Intelligence: Good at Mathematics, Algorithms, Probability & Statistics, Distributed Computing, Signal Processing, Unix Tools, Machine Learning, etc

Cyber Security: Understand the architecture, administration and management of Operating Systems like Windows, Linux, networking, firewalls and cyber security certifications like ethical hacking, etc

Data Sciences:  Good at Probability & Statistics, Programming, Machine Learning Algorithms, Advanced Machine Learning, big data frameworks/visualization

Business Systems:  Good at hardcore programming in various language and years of experience in building systems like Enterprise Management Systems, Financial Systems, HR, IT, Equipment and finally how to integrate all of them to get data across each modules. Here experience is key.

This is just a brief look in, you need to do some research into each field and then understand your key strengths and then decide.

Good Luck
