Computer science, Civil and mechanical are core branches. These three streams are evergreen. Automobile engineering is subset of Mechanical engineering. Any candidate with a B.Tech in mechanical is eligible to appear in automobile industry placement but converse is not true. Automobile Engineer will have tough time to get a job in core mechanical profile. That is why if you are interested to pursue automobile it is better to take mechanical. see data science is totally a different field from mechanical engineering and you need to start freshly . first of all you have to get basic understanding of probability and statistics, then learn python and r programming. there is many data analytics tools are available like power BI , sass etc.
you may follow udemy, courses, nptel lectures to learn about data science.

In all top companies, whether it is automobile or other, they turn to the skills and ability of the applicants and select them for the job.Usally engineering graduates in automobile engineering are selected in this type of companies.
But recommendation may work if the recommending person is such an influencial person.In top companies recommendation letter is seen as an negative and can cause for rejection.
