If you want to take admission in the course of BTech in Civil Engineering through the lateral entry examination then you can do it even after Diploma in Automobile Engineering. Switching of trades are allowed for lateral entry examination. Although I would advice you, if you wish to do so , then you must be very sure that you have to put in some extra efforts as the Automobile engineering is quite a different field compared to that of the Civil Engineering. SO you must be ready to work hard and if you have genuine interest in the subject then you will do great in it.

I would suggest you to prefer pursuing Lateral/Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering rather than any domain specific stream like Automobile Engineering after Diploma in Mechanical. Class 12 cleared in a recognised board
Class 12 has been done from any streams (Arts, Science or Commerce)
Candidates who have completed a three-year full-time engineering diploma or a one-year foundation degree in design from a recognised college may also apply for an Automotive Design programme.

For Diploma in Automobile at SCMS College of Polytechnic, the average fees for one year is around 47,000 for management quota seats. This is for regular Diploma which is for three years. There are 60 seats available for Diploma in Automobile Engineering
For lateral entry students, it is 57,000 per year. This is according to SCMS brochure of the year 2020.
