My gate score is 377 in EC, 2020 with a rank of 9950 and the category is GEN. I want to take do M.Tech Embedded or VLSI. Im preparing for BITS HD and VITMEE. Previous NSR cutoffs show that I have achance in few colleges. What colleges do you suggest for better placement exposure in core companies?

Manidipa Kundu Student Expert 8th May, 2020

hi,

see your gate score is ok but you may not get chances in top ranked colleges for m.tech course in vlsi with this score. so I suggest you to also apply for other m.tech entrance exams like bits hd, vitmee, state government colleges exam also.

Dear sir/ madam... for getting admission of m.pharma in BITS Pilani, is gpat score is enough or we should write any other exam along with gpat to get admissions in BITS?

Akram Khan 8th May, 2020

Dear aspirant,

For admission to M.pharma course in Bits Pilani admission are taken on the basis of either GPAT exam or through BITS HD test only.

For admission two separate merit list are prepared one of BITS -HD test and one for GPAT.

50% of the seats will be filled by GPAT score and other 50%  of the seats will be filled by GPAT score.

So GPAT score is also good enough if you have sufficient scorrto get admission. You can also take admission through BITS HD test.  There is no extra test for admission in BITS.

Hope it helps.

What is the scope of Material Engineering in India (present and future)?

harsh Student Expert 6th May, 2020

Hello dear

As you know that engineering is a field where you can explore yourself with different technologies and ideas and live a loyal life by a great wealth.

Material engineering is not a small field if you are a student of it and you can analyse and you can realise that every thing around you is made of some  material and you can relate your knowledge and think about this that the processes , reactions , at what temp. they made, their properties and other various things like finishing ,cutting ,painting will be depend upon the material .

You can move to any field like research and development , manufacturing plant ,casting production companies of machine parts and company wants that you should provide a good , efficient, strong according to the use, reliable ,and cost efficient products by using your knowledge of materials and science.

Hope you can now see a different scope of material science and you can find out that what you can do .

Good luck

Bits pilani mtech through gate cutoff Marks for mechanical engineering

Manidipa Kundu Student Expert 5th May, 2020

hi,

see cutoff score changes every year and it depends on the difficulty level of any particular paper, your choice of streams, seat matrix, students category etc,. as per previous years cutoff you need to score 700-770 to get admission in bits, since there is also hd exams for non gate scorer, high cutoff is expected.

What is the syllabus of BITS HD exam and how to prepare for it?

Ketaki Dhotre Student Expert 3rd May, 2020

Dear,

In general BITS-HD has more emphasis on theoretical questions as opposed to the numerical type questions in GATE. The number of questions to be attempted in 120 mins is around 100 which is similar to the pattern of IES. So, my advice to you would be to go through the previous year IES questions thoroughly along with GATE papers, and focus more on theoretical aspects of the important topic of mechanical. Also, there are few extra topics in BITS-HD syllabus as opposed to that of GATE, do make sure to prepare them as well. Prepare well for first paper as well( Maths and English you can score fully with sufficient prep), because more often than not, people scoring well in first paper get an extra edge over others. For getting Pilani Campus try getting close to 190 out of total marks, which should get you any branch of your choice. All the very best. Do visit the following site for the syllabus.

Can you elaborate about what BITS Pilani offers as a campus in terms of education, admission and academics?

Let me just begin with a first statement or a vision which is being given by late Shri GD Birla, who is the founder of BITS Pilani that  "What do we propose to do here? We want to teach real science whether it is engineering, chemistry, humanities, physics or any other branch. We want to develop a scientific approach in Pilani, which means there would be no dogma. There will be a search for truth. What we propose to do here is to cultivate a scientific mind." So, keeping this preamble in mind, I would like to say that BITS Pilani has a very unique culture in terms of the academic curriculum which has been set up. Students who come here, get an opportunity and they are not compounded or restricted by a particular specific specialisation.

To give you an idea about our integrated first degree programs, we offer a bachelor's program which is called B.E in Chemical Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical and Electronics, Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering and also we have B.Pharmacy. Further we have a five years program in M.Sc in Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Economics, Mathematics, Physics, and General Studies. So this is something which we called integrated first degree and the students will have an opportunity to do inter disciplinary, a lot of flexibility in terms of  combining the two programs together and convert them to multidisciplinarity. Apart from these, there are other possibilities such as minor in state of Arts niche areas which are also being provided to the students like in Pilani  we offer, film and media, finance, physics, data science, philosophy, economics and politics, english studies, entrepreneurship, material science and engineering. So, to begin with at the first degree level and combining with the other minors that we give. Higher degree is what we call the master's program where the students can go into biotechnology, chemical engineering, civil engineering has three specialisations: structural engineering, infrastructure engineering and management and transportation engineering, communication engineering, computer science engineering, design engineering, embedded systems, manufacturing system engineering, mechanical, micro electronics and software systems. Apart from that in pharmacy, we have a M.Pharm program. The kind of program which is given is like an integrated first degree program or the high degree program. Students have an  opportunity to choose what exactly they want to do and there is a lot of flexibility in terms of the way in which course content has been articulated at BITS Pilani.  I think among the education institutions in India, BITS Pilani is on front in terms of some of the very innovative programs such as practice schools i.e. PS 1 and PS 2 and students have an opportunity to spend two months in PS 1 and almost 6 months in PS 2 in industry which gives them an all round preparation to be more industry relevant apart from being a part of engineering.

Are you likely to accept a SAT score at some point or are you accepting it now for admission at BITS?

We do, right now, we have an international students admission which is a separate stream. The details are mentioned over the official website.

We have three modes of admission to BITS Pilani-

1) Through BITSAT

2) By being a topper of the board

3) International students who come with a SAT score

So, SAT is already there but it's fee structure is different.

Do you think BITS would expand beyond just being Science and Technology University?

It is no more going to be only Science and Technology. In some form or the other, we have few more programs. In the coming future, I'm sure BITS Pilani will expand in terms of the offerings that it makes and in the areas which today we are not dealing with. Just one example,  as we started the IoE journey, we started a program on liberal studies. it's not science and technology alone. We started with the M.Phil program. So, as a university we want to be a full fledged university.

BITS pilani will expand but possibly it's too early to say which all programs we will have.

Can you give us some indication that the BITS EXAM will be before the JEE or after the JEE?

I have no idea because firstly, we don't know when is the JEE exam and we don't want to tie ourselves with the JEE exam or the other Universities exam date. But one important thing is, we design the BITSAT to give flexibility to the students. The exam is conducted not in a single day but for a few days, so if there is the JEE exam in between, we will keep this in mind. But at this point, we cannot say it will be before or after. Whenever the announcement of any major exam is made, we will see how we accommodate that but more than that it is too early to say.
