what is the softwares to be learnt by the civil engineer to get white color job?

pri111nah 23rd Oct, 2021

Hi,

Here is the order of courses with importance for civil engineering :-

  1. Microsoft Office. Particularly Word, Excel, Outlook, and Project
  2. AutoCAD. Some companies prefer Microstation but AutoCAD is the industry standard. Don’t forget to include the Survey, Civil Design, and Land Development packages. And definitely learn how to use the project files and features.
  3. HydroCAD. No matter what project you do, Stormwater Management is going to be an issue. HydroCAD seems to be the industry standard.
  4. Discipline-specific software. Here you can include your Revit and STAAD for structural engineers, Highway Capacity Software and Autoturn for the Traffic and Transportation Engineers.
  5. Primavera. This is a project management application. It can be substituted with MS Project above also MS Project.
  6. Microstation: Microstation is a CAD alternative to AutoCAD. While not as common as AutoCAD I’ve seen it used a lot because it’s much cheaper. I don’t believe it has as much design assistance as AutoCAD with its templates, terrains, and ability to automatically generate cross-sections based on project file data. I only mention it because I saw it a lot in my early days as an engineer. At the very least every office should have a drafter or engineer capable of converting Microstation files to AutoCAD files. When subcontractors would submit Microstation files we would then have to convert to AutoCAD and incorporate into our files. One major fault to Microstation I have found is you cannot name the different layers so when you’re zoomed in close and you need to know what a line is, the properties tab will only tell you “Layer 36” or some other random number. I found that extremely frustrating when trying to incorporate a drawing into mine then having to change all the layers for consistency.

I would recommend these courses for better jobs :-

  1. Revit
  2. AutoCAD
  3. Tekla
  4. StaadPro / Etab
  5. Lumion or Enscapade or Syncro is a bonus for you.

Above this, I would also suggest you to have a basic working knowledge in MS-Office or any similar, Adobe PDF editor or BlueBeam as these become utmost necessary while documenting or raising queries.

Hope this helps.

piyush singh 1st Dec, 2021

Hello aspirant

LSR BA(hons) Political Science  is the better option over DTU Mechanical engineering for a civil service aspirant as you can choose Political science(PSIR) as your optional and it is a very scoring subject in comparison to Mechanical engineering as optional also political science as a subject will help you in GS as well as prelims whereas mechanical engineering wont. You will find so many aspirants in your class and well as in your college as DU is hub for civil services aspirants .

Hope this helps.

cse vs civil engineering which is best for girls

Vedang Ranmale 22nd Oct, 2021

Hello student,

First of all, there is no course that is gender biased. So, I strongly suggest you that you choose your branch on the basis of your passion and liking towards it.

Civil engineering is more of site oriented whereas CSE is more office oriented. In Civil Engineering you would have to design and construct buildings, highways, bridges, etc. In CSE you have to develop software solutions and develop apps and codes to run the software world smoothly.

If you are good at any of your field, you are bound to get better job opportunities and placements. So, choose between the above traits that you like and make your choice accordingly.

I hope this helps, All the Best!

Which is better college among vit or pccoe pune ? is vit mechanical better or pccoe pune mechanical? How is pccoe pune civil engineering?

Urvi 30th Nov, 2021

Hello

Vit pune was established in 2002 whereas pccoe was established in 2014. Both vit and pccoe offers same facilities like hostel, wifi, gym, cafeteria, library, etc. But if you look from the fee prospective, pccoe pune has less fees for mechanical as compared to vit, pune.

Pccoe pune is ranked 'A' grade by NAAC and is also good for civil engineering. The course aims to make students build their skills in problem solving, design & development of solutions, engineering knowledge, ethics, project management and finance, etc.
