You can definitely give 2017 a try,but honestly you have very limited time for Preparation, my personal recommendation is to attempt 2018 whole heartedly with full preparation. As of Now just brush up basics and give some 3-5 odd mock exams before CAT 2017. If you score good enough, then

In order to pursue full time MBA or PGDM program you need to be graduate in any field with atleast 50% marks in graduation. Almost all of the institutes through CAT, NMAT, XAT etc.

These start after certain interval after the results are declared. These can happen anytime between January to March depending on the date of declaration of results. Usually for Old IIMs they release their shortlists for interview after 5-20 days of the declaration of the results then they declare their dates.

CAT is considered one of the toughest exams which is similiar to XAT and GMAT. CAT considers normalization method for results. See there is no fixed percentile for any college but still generally seeing the last year trends to get a call from IIT Bombay you need to get above 98+ percentile in order to get a call for interview and WSAT round.

Right now you can fill the result of last semester or year whatever you have with you. All the freshers whose results haven't been declared yet needs to do that.

Since you have average academics and no work experience, you would need minimum of 99.5 percentile in CAT ro receive call from IIMs and need to give wonderful GDPI to get admission.
