what has better scope after bcom , company secretary or MBA from a reputed institute?

shubham 5th Oct, 2020

Hello,

Completing Bachelors in commerce will help you to have a base in commerce field and to go further both Company secretary or MBA are good option.

Company secretary keeps the records, sets up the contours for the deliberations of board and ensures regulatory compliance with respect to all the decision. You get a decent salary package after completing CS.

Whereas on other hand if you do a MBA from reputed college you will get a wide knowledge of management skills and concepts. You will get wide scope of branches to expand like finance, marketing, operations and HR. Considering finance as your forte you can be specialized in that field.

CS will be more of a core job where as MBA will be a management job.

Hope this will help you to decide which field to choose after Bcom.

what has better scope, company secretary or MBA from a reputed college? also is it reasonable to prepare for CAT while doing LLB?

Saunkita Mallick 5th Oct, 2020

Hi, Hope you are doing well!

MBA and Company Secretary are completely two different career lines. MBA is all mainly about management of business and company secretaries deal with the corporate legal matters.

If you are doing LLB you should go for Company Secretary course(if choosing between MBA and CS). Otherwise LLB is enough too.

Company Secretary course syllabus mainly focuses on corporate and company law. LLB is done along with CS, so that these two professional qualifications can complement each other. Small companies don't appoint lawyers separately(as its not mandatory), they appoint CS+LLB candidates so that they can make these candidates work as both lawyer and CS alternatively. But note that CS and Lawyers need to get their practicing certificate and due to this one can't practice both the professions at a time. One needs to surrender CS practice certificate to practice as a lawyer and vice-versa.

LLB & MBA, MBA & CS are never good combinations as these courses have no similarity at all. Do MBA with CS or LLB only if you want to make a career only in MBA, or only in CS, or only in LLB.

what is the the starting salary of a company secretary fresher? is it really worth to give it 3 years after graduation if Im not that interested in it

Karam Vir 4th Oct, 2020

Hi,

The starting salary of a Company Secretary with a zero experience can get between INR 6000-10,000  as a stipend. As you gains experience, you can even earn up to INR 60,000 per month. It also depends at which post you are actually working. can get more details about CS on the following link : https://www.careers360.com/careers/company-s

However, as you have specified earlier, you are not interested in the field , so you have no need to waste your three years. Do not see the salary package offered. Follow your own passion, and you can make much more money in that field.

Im a bcom graduate & currently pursuing company secretary course but i wish to drop out of it. I want to pursue MBA from a top B-school so what will be suitable for me: 1. take up a job & prepare for CAT simultaneously 2. Do LLB & prepare for CAT simultaneously 3. Do MCOM & prepare for CAT

theeanonymous 3rd Oct, 2020

Hello Mj,

The answer to this question depends on your B-School goal. As you mentioned top b-school , it can either be IIMs or next level good and reputed MBA institutes. If you are aiming only for IIMs then you will have to work really hard and be extremely focused in your preparation, because very few people crack within one or two attempts. Hence if you are confident with your preparation strategies , then you can take up part time work and divide equal time for both comfortably , note that you should be disciplined enough to manage both.  Moreover, if you are planning to take up MBA from IIMs then you do not need to do LLB or M.Com as MBA has got wider scope especially when you do it from a premium institution. Even if you are going to seek CAT coaching,  part time job will not be  a hindrance and once you join MBA you can leave or even continue if your employer is supportive.

You may visit the below link to know about CAT preparation :

https://bschool.careers360.com/articles/how-prepare-for-cat

Now another scenario is when , your CAT attempts do not fetch you IIMs or other premium institutes, in that case an LLB degree would be a good back up as it has wider job options compared to MCom.Note that you can do MBA from top institutes like Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies or Symbiosis Centre for Distance Learning in distance mode too if your original plan does not workout. There are E-MBA programmes too which are of high value exclusively for working professionals. More importantly consider your interests and aptitude too towards MBA and Law before taking up.

Therefore, your final decision depends on your dedication and preparation level, how much you can manage at a time , what your future career goals are and your interest towards the subject.
