Having a degree in data science can I join in Forest department?

Ashish Gupta 25th Feb, 2022

The forest department has a separate recruitment drive and examination to target certain posts. They are also recruited through the popular UPSC examination in India. Unless your skill set matches well with a regional opening the chances for getting into the forest department are slim just based on a degree in data science .

Let us try to highlight the roles and responsibilities of an individual working in the forest department. The Indian Forest Service officers operate under the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF). Their duties include:

·         Protecting and preserving the rich heritage of forest reserves. This includes preventing illegal deforestation, poaching of animals, and other non-legal activities.

·         To implement National forest policy framed by MoEF. They must work under this framework to protect and preserve natural reserves.

·         Devise plans for legal commercial exploitation like timber, rubber, and other natural resources.

In a nutshell, IFoS officers are expected to protect the forest as well as wildlife. Apart from that, they are also expected to curb unlawful wood cutting. Upon selection to IFS, the officers will be given training for 1 year. After that, they will be posted as Assistant conservators of forests in a state.

The forest department also leverages data as an essential tool for problem-solving, but such specialized skill requirements are restricted to a rare few posts. It is recommended that one must develop other complementary skills as well before they intend to join the forest department.

Is it possible to pursue 2 degrees from different streams at the same time? If so, can I pursue a degree in zoology while doing a 5-year LLB course? If so, how long would it take to finish both? What are the details to be followed in such a case?

pdwords Student Expert 25th Aug, 2021

Hello,

Yes, you can pursue two degree courses simultaneously provided one is through distance mode and another through regular mode, now law in distance mode isn't accepted, hence you have to pursue integrated law through regular mode, and in case of BSc Zoology you have to opt for distance mode, now if you pursue degree through distance mode, say through IGNOU, then you have to complete your graduation within six years, that's the maximum time allotted to you.

Would there be any difference in the degree we get through the self-finance course than the one from regular in Jamia milia islamia? Except for fees are there any other differences between them? Also, which one is better, regular or self-finance.

rajeevanand843 25th Aug, 2021

Dear aspirant

There is no any difference in the degree either you get through the self finance course or from regular. Both the degree will have same value and it will say you are graduate in this course.

Although sometimes from where you obtain your degree matter in time of job finding or interview because if you do from regular and famous University like jamia Islamia then it is reputed in our country so one might think you are coming from good background so at that time you may get prefer over the self finance college. The regular or government college are almost preferred over self finance college.

Otherwise if you have skills, it doesn't matter much from where you get the degree.

As per comfortablity you can choose any one of them.

Hope this helps you

All the best
