You have to have knowledge in basic science and mathematics including logic and reasoning

Having a command in English language and literature is must as you are aiming for BA in English

Apart from these, you have to have knowledge in History (both indian and world history), geography

If you want to change your GE (General elective) subject from English to economics then definitely you can do so. 

I don't think it will not effect your cgpa, but before changing please consult the proffesors of your college,  you can also consult to admin department regarding this.
