Which field is good?? Genetic engineering or microbiology or biotechnology? ? I am confused and can we go through NEET

Neha Jain 23rd Oct, 2018

Hi there.

The excellence of the field depends upon the person who is undertaking it.

All the fields mentioned in the question aren't full fledgedly well established in India but have booming markets. People are getting more and more interested towards the field of genetic engineering, biotechnology, and microbiology.

Take the field where your passion and interest lies. If you are still confused talk to people who are already in the field. Take help of websites like Quora and listening to some Ted Talks might give you a proper insight of the respective fields.

Hope this helps.

What is salary for genetic engineering and is there scope in india? And I am in now 11th std (science) and I love bio

Nitheesh Yennampelly Student Expert 13th Oct, 2018

Hey Rupak,

Genetic engineering  is one of the main engineering  branch of science which deals with how the organisms genetically made themselves so complex and which are able to survive. Genes carry out every process in our bodies depending upon the functioning and metabolism of the organ. Genes are responsible for showing variation in a particular body. High variation may lead to formation of new species with better lifestyle or abnormalities in the organisms. Genetic engineering is one of the sensitive science of engineering which needs a perfect attention to master The course. And There are high scopes on genetic engineering because as it is responsible for the advancement of mankind. While speaking about the scope in India, it has not that much as in foreign countries! Basically you can expect a basic starting salary of ₹10,000/- to 15,000/- per month.

All the best!

What is in genetic engineering? ? Can anybody will suggest.

Debosmitha Bhattacharyya Student Expert 12th Oct, 2018

Hi Rupak,

Genetic Engineering basically is the process of manually adding new DNA to a living organism through artificial methods.

Genetic Engineering is a method by which a gene is physically removed from one organism and inserted into another and hence giving it the ability to express the qualities given by that gene.

Applications of Genetic Engineering :

Genetic engineering is used in medicine, research, industry, and agriculture.

  • Medicine – Genetic engineering in the field of medicine is used in manufacturing drugs. The concepts of genetic engineering have been applied in doing laboratory research and in gene therapy.
  • Agriculture – In Agriculture, genetic engineering is used to create genetically modified crops or genetically modified organisms in order to produce genetically modified foods.
  • Research – Scientists uses genetic engineering in their various researches. Genes from various organisms are converted into bacteria for storage and modification, creating genetically modified bacteria for other uses.

It is a specialization of biotechnology and can be studied as a specialization course. There are also many undergraduate and postgraduate courses available.

Bachelor Courses :

Bachelor of Engineering in Genetic Engineering

Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Genetic Engineering

B.Sc in Genetic Engineering

Master Courses:

Master of Engineering in Genetic Engineering

Master of Technology (M.Tech) in Genetic Engineering

M.Sc in Genetic Engineering

Hope this will help. You can comment below if you need more information.

Does Kamaraj University (Madurai)has BTech.genetic Engineering courses.

Prabhavati Dhavala 9th Oct, 2018

First of all TANCET is for M.Tech courses and therefore it cannot be used. You will have to apply through TNEA admissions held by Anna University. As far as I see Kamaraj University doesnt offer B.Tech. They offer science programmes - M.Sc and the regular arts.

Hi I am yuvi iam also interested in genetic engineering what collages can i prefer

Vikas gehlot 7th Oct, 2018

There are many Private colleges which offer this stream to undergraduates, But apart from them, you can do Engineering in Biological Sciences from IITs and then switch to genetic Engineering in Postgraduate from world-class universities. In IITs, you will get an opportunity to carry out research on Genetic Engineering even at Undergraduate level and If you become favorite of some Professor and got LoR then it would be very easy for You to get admission into worlds Top Universities for your interest. If you are considering Private Institutes then Below is the list of some of the Top private Institutes for Genetic Engineering.
