I am getting 48 marks in XE in general category. Which good branch can i get in IIT Guwahati?

Piyush 18th Feb, 2022

Hello aspirant,

I hope that you are doing absolutely great.

With reference to your above mentioned query, i would like to tell you that the GATE Qualifying cutoff varies every year and is different for different category students. With the above marks scored by you in GATE, the chances for you to get a good branch in IIT's or NIT's are good to decent. The qualifying cutoff depends on several other factors like :

  • Performance of the candidate GATE exam.

  • Category of the candidates

  • Previous cutoff trends

However, looking at the previous year cutoff trends in GATE, you can get these colleges with these branches :

NIT Srinagar: Mechanical System Design

NIT Arunachal Pradesh: Fluids and Thermal Engineering

NIT Mizoram: Thermal Engineering

NIT Durgapur: Metallurgy and Materials Engineering

You can also get some tier 3 IIT's also.

Further, if you wish to know more about the GATE Previous year cutoff, you cna follow the below mentioned link :

why do many people dont mention joint international Programme in food science and technology as a course whenever theres discussion about courses offered at IIT Guwahati?

Anish Pal 14th Feb, 2022

Dear Aspirant

Unlike computer science and allied fields food science and technology offer lower placement packages. According to my opinion there is no ranking/hierarchy between branches but there's a placement variable to decide the popularity of a particular branch. In case you wish to study Food Science and Technology from IIT Guwahati you are most welcome to do that. At top colleges like IIT Guwahati you'll get great exposure for your career and higher studies.

Best Wishes.

for someone to become a food scientist, which college would you prefer for m.tech - Food Engineering at IIT Kharagpur or Joint Programme Food Science and Technology at IIT Guwahati?

Sree Student Expert 13th Feb, 2022

Hello aspirant,

Both M.Tech Food Processing Engineering in Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur and International Joint Master of Technology (M.Tech.) degree (IMD) in Food Science and Technology offered by Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati and Gifu University, a national University in Japan are best at there places. There are only 5 seats for Indians and another 5 seats for Japan students for Joint Master of Technology in Food Technology course in Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati which has high competition. If you can get seat then go for it or else go for M.Tech in Food Processing Engineering in Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur because it has 30 seats for this course. As you know both the Institutions has the brand called IIT, so both of them are good at their academics and placements.

if my score in mat is 448.5 what will be the percentile and it is written in my scorecard percentile below 21 what it means . please someone tell me in detail

Sharon Rose Student Expert 30th Dec, 2021

Hello,

MAT percentile is the percentage of candidates who scored less than one candidate in the MAT exam. Percentile score The MAT percentile depends on the total number of candidates who have passed the MAT exam and the marks obtained by the candidates. The percentile score ranges from 0-100 where 0 is the least percentile and the highest percentile is 100.

And the MAT Score 448.5 that you have mentioned is the MAT composite score and it is given on a scale of 199 to 801. The composite score on less than 200 or more than 800 is rare. The composite score is the overall score. The Sectional MAT scores ranges from 0-100. A sectional MAT score less than 20 and more than 80 are rare. All scores below 200 are indicated as 199 and all scores above 800 are indicated as 801.

The institutes accepting MAT score may either consider percentile score or MAT Composite Score for shortlisting of the candidates.
