Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Delhi
Hi Aayush! Firstly, let me tell you, that IIFT conducts its own entrance test and doesn't accept CAT scores. As far as IIFT is concerned, the final merit list is generated on the basis of the scores obtained in IIFT entrance, essay, GD and PI. They do not allot any specific weightage on the past academic records. However, the institute does check previous academic records and overall profile in order to get an idea of the overall candidature. Hence, even if you have low acads but a high score and good performance in selection rounds, or have some extracurricular activities, then it would be an added advantage.
For the CAT participating institutes, IIMs do consider past academic records stringently. Each IIM has a specific percentage cutoff for Class X, XII and graduation marks and specific weightage is assigned. In such a scenario, even if you secure a high CAT percentile, very low acads might cause hindrance in your admission chances. However, apart from IIMs there are several top rung B-schools which do not assign weightages on past academics.
Right now, you should focus on preparation. Rest of the factors will fall into place automatically.

Hi Pragya,
If you are appearing for IIFT it's taken that you are also preparing for other Management Entrance Examinations like CAT, XAT, etc. The basic preparation for all these exams remain the same. So,one needs to put in extra effort only in the GK section which you can prepare by reading newspapers, and other magazines or take the online courses as well. So,do practise the last 10 years papers because time management is the key in this exam and can only be aced by practising actual papers.
