Can I get a Masters Degree from IIMC or DU in journalism and mass communication?

Priya Mahajan 18th Apr, 2020

Hi

I think the conventional masters programs are not run by these institutions. You can either go for a diploma or integrated 5 years course.

Another option would be to browse some more good colleges from where you an go for your masters in mass communication. My friend has pursued MA from Mass. co. from Lovely Professional University and has done good by being campus placed by ANI.

So browse some good sites like Lady Sri Ram College, New Delhi, Loyola College, Chennai, Lovely Professional University etc.

Hope my answer was a help!!!!

what is the admission procedure of iimc delhi?

Khushi Singh 22nd May, 2019

Hi Harshit

Well when it comes to iimc, it is one of the best institutes in the world for mass communication and indeed the best in India. So, admission procedures are not gonna be easy, right. so first you will have to decide what course do you want to pursue. there are various courses in the institute, like hindi journalism, english journalism, ad and pr etc. So admission procedures are simple. firstly, you will have to give a written exam. if you clear that you will be called for interview and then admission.

Iimc entrance is based on 2 types of evaluation.

  1. Written Entrance.
  2. Interview.
  • If one is selected in the written test, she/he is called for the interview.
  • There are 3 courses popular in IIMC Delhi.
    • PG in Print Journalism (2 sections of English and Hindi)
    • PG in Radio and Television
    • Advertising and PR.
  • In addition to that , there are courses like PG in Urdu Journalism, Odia Journalism (Dhenkanal Centre, Orissa).
  • The basic plot for the journalism entrance is General Knowledge. All the 3 entrances of Print, Radio and Tv and ADPR will require thorough understanding of General Knowledge. To understand the question types, aspirations should download the previous years question papers available on the Internet. Understanding the question pattern is the most important part of the entrance. So download it.
  • The college website should be regularly checked for dates and other information.
  • For Print Journalism entrance Grammar part is also asked. So basic grammar like articles, preposition and verb agreements and other grammar should be grasped. In every question paper since the last 5 years they ask difference between words. Like affect and effect.

  • RTV entrance may ask about an abstract question which will demand creative imputs. Following the previous question paper is enough.

If selected for the written, students will be called for interview. The interview ranges from general questions about world politics. Sometimes it may deviate into things like “what are your hobbies?” Questions about uour graduation course is usually asked. One must be able to relate that with journalism.

TIP-  Be confident, read a lot of newspapers and magazines. Avoid any kind of coaching centres please. Everything is basic study. Go for it.

Jesin J 18th May, 2019

Hello. To get into IIM Calcutta, one must appear for the CAT exam. Based on your CAT score, they will call you for the interviews. In the interview, you can explain why you failed.

My advice is to prepare hard for the CAT examination and score as high as possible.

Hope you get a seat in IIM Calcutta.

All the best.

what will be the cuttoff for IIMC & IIMK. What will be the admission procedure for CAT-2019

Jesin J 8th May, 2019
Hello. The Cat cutoff for various IIMs change every year. The initial shortlisting is based on factors like:

Cat score
Class 10 score
Class 12 score
Graduation score
Gender diversity
Academic diversity
Work Experience
Certification.

No one can predict any cutoff for any IIM before the exam. If one gets 99+, there are chances, that the person might not be even shortlisted for interviews and some other person gets shortlisted at 97 percentile. So only thing you can do, is to prepare hard for Cat, and score as high as possible.

The admission procedure includes:

Initial shortlisting as mentioned above
Written ability test/ group discussion
Interview

Final selection is based on all the factors mentioned above, with each factor having some weightage.

All the best.

Will IIMC & IIMK will analyise my degree score and I have completed my undergraduate B. Sc with more than 3 years

Jesin J 8th May, 2019
Hello. Well the only thing IIM C or any IIM would concern, is your overall score in graduation. They do not analyse, how many years you took to complete a 3 year course. However, during the interview process, if they notice that you took more than 3 years to complete a 3 year course, they make ask you or even grill you. You have to defend about it.

Moreover, even during placements, some companies wouldn't appreciate the same. But keep the hopes high.

All the best.

i have done b.com at government college in North East under Dibrugarh University and my graduation percentage is 50% .

ym.matlani_6504227 Student Expert 4th May, 2019

Dear Subham,

First of all, I would like to tell you that IIM Calcutta accepts CAT exam score and they have certain cut off for each category, for the general category, it is 90 percentile. Any college accepting CAT score whether it is an IIM college or any other has basic criteria of cut off percentage for graduation, 12th, and 10th. For graduation, it is 50% minimum to even appear for CAT exam. Since you qualify the basic criteria hence you are eligible for MBA in finance and accounting in IIM Calcutta (you choose your specialization in the second year of the program)

But keep this in mind that IIM Calcutta comes in the first tier of colleges which makes it difficult to get admission. Since your graduation marks are not that great so to even get a call from IIM Calcutta for the interview you need to get excellent percentile in CAT i.e much more than 90 percentile and improve overall profile if it is possible.

I hope this answer solves your query.

I got 67 percent in 10 and 83 in 12 can i get admission in iim calcutta

Saurabh 24th Apr, 2019
Hi siddhant,
Your tenth percenage is going to be a hurdle while appearing for IIM interviews and gd. Your 12th marks are good. So yes it is possible for you to get into IIM calcutta. All you have to do is maintain a good academic record in your graduation. Do some social work,  extra curriculars and gain a good number of certificates. You could also strengthen  your profile by doing some financial certifications like ca, cs, etc. After you have done this give CAT exams and score above 99.7 percentile in CAT and you will surely get a call from iim calcutta. Rest is then left on your interview skills and group discussion.
