IIMs are the best institutes in India to study MBA however they're not the only ones. With high cutoffs, limited seats and high fee it is not possible for most of the students to get into them. There are many other private institutes that can prove to be worthy of your time and money. They may not give you the package like ones offered in IIMs but they offered pretty decent packages. Some of them are,

For admission's in IIM's or some other B-schools, Common Admission Test (CAT) examination is held every year. It is an All India examination conducted by IIM.

Up until a few years back, about 90% of students in IIMs were engineers. But now the trend has changed. Even in top IIMs, almost 30-40% students and from Arts background. Benefits are given to non-engineers at the interview call stage, but there's no quota in final selection. They just want quality and diversity in their students.

             For getting into IIM u need to appear for CAT exam for which you can appear only if you are a graduate. 

            The eligibility criteria for CAT exam is that you need to hold a bachelor's degree with a min. of 50% of marks or equivalent CGPA.

Depends! There are three broad sectors which differentiate:

1. Category: generals get a hard time cracking any exam, SC STs get calls at even 70 percentiles and I with a 99.36 general didn’t get a call from any old IIMs
2. Graduation: If you are an engineer you are screwed here as well. Non engineers get call for any percentile greater than 99, even at 98.5 with good acads.
3. Gender: Males have a tough time here, I have known girls with calls at 95 percentile.

So if you are a case as I am, a general engineer male… well your chances for getting a call are slim.
