Does anyone know if investment banking roles are offered at IIM Shillong? If yes which all firms do that? Do these firms recruit regularly?

Akshay Kadam 17th Mar, 2018

Yatin yes there are some firms like Goldman Sachs, Fidelity etc. which offers a role of Investment Banking. Your question whether they come regularly or not; generally these companies visit atleast all old IIMs including IIM Shillong but what role they are offering varies every year depending on the economy and requirement of the company.

According to last year placement records in IIM Shillong average salary offered was Rs. 14.27 lakhs per annum, median salary offered was Rs. 14 lakhs per annum and maximum salary offered was Rs. 26 lakhs per annum.

Some of the Companies / Recruiters who visited the campus are:

Amazon, Berger Paints, Cognizant, Dell, Deloitte, fidelity, Future Group, Glaxo SmithKline, Google, Goldman Sach, HSBC, IBM, ICICI, ICICI Prudential, Infosys, JP Morgan Chase, Kohler, Mahindra and Mahindra, Mind Tree, Nomura, Pfizer, RBL Bank, State Bank of India, Tata Motors, Tata Steel, Thomson Reuters, TitanIndustries, Voonik, Wipro, YesBank, ZS Associates

This is not an exhaustive list. Other than these companies there were lot more companies which visited the campus for final placement.

Is iims asks for fee after scoring 90 percentile in CAT?? .....Please answer anyone...!!

Akshay Kadam 24th Feb, 2018

Sandeep, first of all, a general student won't even get selected into any of the IIM with 90 percentile in CAT. It's percentile, not a percentage, I think you must have misjudged it. For even getting into new IIMs or ultra new IIMs you need to atleast have 95+ percentile. For IIM Shillong you need to have 97+ percentile with a strong profile (academic records, work experience etc.). These all things will lead you to get a call for the second round process of WAT and interview. And after clearing that only you will get admission into any IIM.

Now talking about fee compensation so there is no fee scholarship or compensation for any student in any IIM even if you score 100 percentile. For MBA programmes at IIMs, to pay the full fees the best way is to get a loan from banks. When you will be joining IIm so at each many banks come to give their presentation showing about all of their loan schemes. And believe me, at IIMs you will be getting loans in the easiest way at the lowest interest rate. At IIMs you get loans without any guarantee only on the basis of the information that you are enrolled in that institution.

There are no as such fixed scholarships when you will be taking admission at IIMs. Fees are same for all students irrespective of caste category or gender. But once when you will join you will be introduced to the various scholarship from different organizations and governments. There are many scholarships given by the regional government, organizations like Aditya Birla Group and also the central government. Most of these scholarships are based on the parental income, caste and also the academic performance of the student. But you don't need to worry about any scholarship right now, you will be introduced to all the type of scholarships during your session.

At present, you will need to get your loan sanction and carry on with the studies. Don't worry about the payment because you are going into a premier b-school whose ROI is generally very good and you will able to pay your debt in a few years and then there will be growth only.

My son was shortlisted in IIM Lucknow (Sustainability management), IIM Shillong, Trichy & IIT Mumbai & Delhi. Which is best?

Amod Tripathi 14th Feb, 2018
Though IIM Lucknow is the best institute but sustainability is a niche course and you should get into it if and only if you are very much interested in a career in sustainability management.

From the others IIT Bombay is better than IIT Delhi better than IIM Trichy. If you are not sure about your specialisation post MBA you should opt for a general management programme.

Overall cat 98.2 va 76.6 dlr 98.2 qu 99.2. Any chance in mdi or iim shillong?

Yash 15th Oct, 2024

Yes, you might get a WATPI/ GDPI call from IIM Shillong and MDI Gurgaon at 98.2 percentile in the CAT. However, getting an Interview call also depends upon various other factors such as Class 10, Class 12, Graduation scores, work experience, academic and gender diversity, etc. along with the CAT percentile obtained by candidates. After the WATPI/ GDPI round, a final composite score is calculated by the institute based on performance of candidates in the CAT, Group Discussion/ Written Ability Test, Personal Interview and other components as decided by the institute and final merit list is prepared. As you have obtained 98.2 percentile, you have a good chance to get a call from IIM Shillong and MDI Gurgaon.

Can I get admission in Iim shillong for MBA with 50 percentile? I am a ST student.

Akshay Kadam 26th Dec, 2017

No, you won't get a call from IIM Shillong with 50 percentile even if you are an SC student. IIM Shillong which is considered as one of the old IIMs after IIM A, B, C, L, K and I is also a premier institute and for getting a call you must need to have atleast 75+ percentile with an overall good profile (10th, 1th and graduation percentage, work experience, engineer or non-engineer etc.) for getting a call. Every parameter has a different weightage in different colleges.

I am sorry to say that with 50 percentile it will be even very tough for you to get a call from any new IIM. You need to look out for other colleges or give other MBA exams in order to perform much better than this time.
