i have recently qualified GATE 2020 (FRESHER)and got Mtech in embeded system from nit jamshedpur and also Mtech in Dsp from IIST Trivendrum . if placement is the main concern which one should i choose ?

Ayush 7th Sep, 2020

Hello,

Hope you are doing well.

As per your question if we only consider and compare in terms of placement than:-

NIT jamshedpur:-

As per their officials NIT jamshedpur have an average package of 9LPA and highest package of 39 LPA. Also around 30percent students are placed in top organization.

IIST trivendrum:-

As per their officials average CTC package is of 5LPA and highest package is around 10 LPA.

So as per these officials if we compare both of them then NIT jamshedpur will offer you a higher package than that of IIST trivendrum. So you should choose NIT jamshedpur in terms of better package and placement.

Hope this helps you! Thank you.

can i get into IIST through JEE mains only if i am a st student or is jee advanced the only way to get in?

S. Saha Student Expert 28th Aug, 2020
The Indian Institute of Space Science and Technologyoffers admission only on the basis of Jee Advanced. It doesn't consider scores of Jee Main. In order to get into IIST, you need to fetch good rank in Jee Advanced. IIST will release the application on September 27 for admission to B.Tech programmes 2020 through Jee Advanced and the last date to fill the application is October 7. IIST will release the rank list based on the applications. You can read our article http://engineering.careers360.com/articles/iist-btech-admission
The Minimum criteria to be eligible for Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology is that qualifying Jee Main with at least 20% marks in aggregate and 5% marks individually in all three subjects i.e. Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. This is for general category candidates. For OBC NCL candidates, they must score at least 18% in aggregate and 4.5% individually in all three subjects and for SC, ST and PwD Candidates, it is 10% in aggregate and 2.5% individually in PCM.
In 2018, the cutoff percentage for General category was,
Opening percentage 43.89 while the closing percentage was 34.17 for general category in B.Tech Aerospace Engineering.
In 2017, the opening percentage was 64.21 and the closing percentage was 53.83.
This is how the cutoffs change every year as it depends on various factors. And this is according to last few years' data and this year the cutoffs might change.

how is Cumulative Grade Point Average(CGPA) cgpa in the final semester at IIST calculated?

Prabhav Sharma 27th Aug, 2020

Hello,

The overall performance of a student at any stage of the programme is evaluated by the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) upto that point of time. It is calculated as:

Cumulative Grade Point Average = Summation(Ci * Gpi)/Summation(Ci)

where, Ci is the credit for ith course in any semester,

and Gpi is the grade point obtained for that course.

The summation is for over all the courses registered by the student during all the semesters up to that point of time including the failed courses. The CGPA is also rounded off to two decimals. The ranking of the students in a batch for a particular branch at any intermediate or final stage is based on CGPA

Hope this helps!
