There is NO special quota for foreign students so You need to score as much as other to get into IIT. Cut off vary every year depending upon difficulty level and total Marks, But if You score more than 35% You will be qualified as this is the cut offset

if you have confidence in you that if you can study by yourself then no coaching centre is required unless and untill you are prefect in academics.

However you can choose much bigger set of courses like Mechanical engineering or Production engineering which encompasses all details of Mechanics and Mechatronics fron all IIT/NIT.
