Hello student yes you're right getting admission into NIT and IIT for M.Tech course is through GATE Entrance examination only.
Eligibility - candidates must have passed B.tech /BE with a valid gate Score there's no upper age limit.

You didn't mention the category you belong to dear , to be eligible for admission in NITs, IITs  etc you need a minimum of 75% marks in class 12 or equivalent exam if you belong to general category . For those who are from SC/ ST category, they need

Hey there

75% is a benchmark mostly for CBSE students but since State board students get less marks so for them top 20 percentile is there and thus if you'll be top 20 percentile as per your category then you'll be automatically eligible

Hello student cut off vary every year on various factors like the level of question in the entrance examination and total number of number of applicants in that examination.
