Ranking and placement wise both the institute have better records. IIT graduate is preferred over NIT graduate when applying for a job in the same post. My suggestion is to complete you M. Tech from IIT if you are getting a seat. Don't miss your chance. Good Luck.

Your seat in IIT totally depends on your jee advanced rank. Role of your board marks is just for eligiblity purpose.

In JoSSA counselling you will be alloted the college only on the base of your jee advanced rank. If your rank is good enough you will get the

If you are talking about bachelor's degree then GATE is for master's degree and JEE ADVANCE is the option to get into IITs.
But if you mean for masters then GATE is the exam held by various IITs and IIScs for getting into their colleges to pursue master's degree.

You need to qualify  jee advance to get admission in iit. And for top 5 iit you need to score under 1k rank in case if you have category then maybe a little lesser rank may also get a seat in top 5 iit.
