Sree Student Expert 13th Feb, 2022

Both M.Tech Food Processing Engineering in Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur and International Joint Master of Technology (M.Tech.) degree (IMD) in Food Science and Technology offered by Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati and Gifu University, a national University in Japan are best at there places. There are only 5 seats for Indians and another 5 seats for Japan students for Joint Master of Technology in Food Technology course in Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati which has high competition. Why is everybody speaking about branch change whenever there is discussion about Food processing Engineering at IIT Kharagpur?

ayanmukherjee045 12th Feb, 2022

Hello Subbu,

Food processing is considered as a lower branch in all the colleges and if seen from the practical aspect , in india there is very less scope in the food processing stream or in the horeca buisness.

If you want to pursue this career then i would recommend you to kindly look for abroad colleges for your post graduation and if possible kindly change your branch.

But also keep in mind if you are not able to change your branch then it doesn't mean it's a waste doing this degree. After all you are in iit and there are many companies which allows for non core stream even from this branch.

Eligibility criteria is that you must have passed Bachelor's Degree in Engineering/Technology/Architecture/M.Sc or equivalent professional degrees (AMIE etc.) and having a valid GATE score. You need to make sure that your GATE marks are above the cut-off marks of your category and GATE paper.

how is the package of food engineers from IIT KHARAGPUR? i have heard from some sites like quora and found those answers to be discouraging. what is the situation of food engineers from iit kgp?

Arhana Chakraborty 11th Feb, 2022

Fields like Food Technology, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering etc are not that much package wise best as we used to hear about the field such as CSE, Electrical etc. So its discouraging yet true that the packages of BTech in Agriculture & Food Technology at IIT KGP, will not be as good as CSE. The salary package on average is around Rs. 6-8 LPA CTC & with time it may increase but the starting salary isn't usually very much higher than this.

If I get call from MBA in IIT Madras, IIT Kharagpur or IIT Kanpur and also in baby IIMs,should I choose an IIT or IIM?

Moumoyee Chakraborty 22nd Jan, 2022

Dear applicant considering the honest scenario of the inner educational atmosphere of the Colleges unless you get IIM Lucknow, Ahmedabad or Kolkata, it is not that satisfactory to take admission in the other ones. Whereas in case of IITs like IIT Madras, or IIT Kanpur it is way too better than to choose the less preferable IITs. So it is extremely important to get the seat at a good Institution, choose wisely.

Good luck!!

Hi,

No, it is not possible currently in case of 5 year Dual Degree Courses to leave college with a BTECH degree of 4 year. However if it was the other way round, where you were doing 4 year Btech and wanted to convert to Dual Degree then you could do that. But for you question, No you cannot leave a 5 year integrated degree with btech degree only.

Im a fresher nc obc with no internships and cat oa percentile 93.1 and 10th/12th/BSc as 95/90.3/70.3. Should i apply for iit kharagpur??

ayanmukherjee045 8th Jan, 2022

Dear aspirant,

As you are an obc category and considering your percentile let me tell you that there are fair chances of getting a seat in iit kgp in the mba course however it also depends on your interview and the previous year cut offs trends.

But , on a general basis you will definitely get a call from kgp if you apply there.
