Indian Institute of Technology Ropar
I guess one should go for following preference
IIIT Guwahati
IIT Dhanbad
IIT Indore
IIT Patna
IIT Bhubaneshwar
IIT Mandi
IIT Ropar
NIT Surathkal
This is the general perception and not necessarily based on any rankings such as NIRF. NIT Surathkal is an excellent institute but at the end of the day, the IIT tag is much bigger than the NIT tag!
IIT Ropar is a good college. But, it hasn’t shifted yet to the permanent campus. So, it might lag a lot in the campus fun that you could enjoy in older IITs. Xollege have some people for GSoC here and some very good professors and some bad professors. Its like any other IIT.
As far coding culture is concerned, it is very developed. IIT Ropar do not enjoy the benefit of the locations that other newer IITs like Hyderabad and Indore enjoy. But, college is also not too far from Chandigarh. So, you can obviously have fun their.
The placements of CSE for all the IITs stands the best and so it does here. Going by the statistics, IIT Hyderabad, Indore and Ropar have the best placements among all newer IITs and better than some older IITs like BHU, Guwahati. Though, placements completely depend on individual efforts. I consider IIT Ropar CSE to be equally good as CSE in older IITs and some highly performing newer IITs like Hyderabad and Indore.
IIT Gandhnagar
Doubts arising with respect to the following aspects:
CS department at IIT Gandhinagar started in more years to start a B Tech in CSE just goes onto show the kind of quality control measures IIT GN employs and the kind of standards it sets when it comes to providing world class education. Since the PhD program in CS has been running since a long time now, plenty of research is happening. Minors in CS has always been popular among UG students at IIT Gandhinagar.
The placements in coding profiles have been excellent. It boils down to the individual and the kind of profile he builds during his four years at IIT Gandhinagar.
IIT GN will provide ample opportunities and will encourage the interests of its students greatly. Making the best use of the resources and opportunities available is up to the individual.
hey aspirant,
It completely depends on the interest of the student what he wants to choose. The chemical department of IIT BHU is very famous for its old alumni base. So no doubt, it will be a good option if someone wants to go for it.
On the other hand, IIT Ropar has also proved itself in the last 9 years and is now among the top new IITs. It has been ranked as the 3rd best new IIT in the 2016 and 2017 rankings. Moreover, IIT Ropar and other 2008 IITs have almost completed a decade and calling them as a new IIT will not be fair anymore. So as a college, IIT Ropar is nowhere lacking when compared to IIT BHU and will surely be a good choice. Surely, the infra structure of IIT BHU is better than IIT Ropar because BHU is an old college, but as per the current strength of IIT Ropar (nearly 1k students), the campus is sufficiently equipped with the required facilities and Laboratories. Also, if someone wants to know about IIT Ropar in detail, go through the following answer-
Secondly, if someone has no particular interest towards any field, then give preference to the branch above a college. As far as the future scope is concerned, Mechanical has an upper hand over the chemical department. Also the placements of IIT Ropar’s mechanical department remains around 80 percent with an average of around 12 Lpa.
Also, the curriculum of IIT Ropar is very much flexible.
So if you have no specific branch interest, then Ropar mechanical will be a better choice in terms of future scope, placements and research. Incase you have some inclination towards chemical, then BHU will be a good choice.
all the best
Hello Jatin!
According to your rank you will get IIT ROPAR but only branch (Metallurgical Branch) .I am saying this on the basis of previous year opening and closing rank given in the josaa website.
https://josaa.nic.in/Result/Result/OpeningClosingRankArchieve.aspx
Hope it answer your concerns.
Hello,
First of all, congratulations for securing such a decent rank in JEE ADVANCE.Listen,it totally depends on you whether you want to go for B.Tech or M.Tech if you want to pursue your career in Computer Science.
I think that between IIT BHU and IIT Ropar, you can easily choose IIT BHU over IIT Ropar and you can also select any other IIT for computer scince if available at the time of counselling.
You can also select other good branches of those 5 old IIT's if you select college over branch, but if CS is your main priority, then you should select the best IIT,Computer science.
Then its your own decision, now if you are getting 5 year M.Tech course in IIT BHU,then my personal suggestion will be that, you should go for 5 year M.Tech course at IIT BHU,because companies will prefer M.Tech'an over an B.Tech'an.
You will surely get an upper edge over the B.Tech students,at the time of placements.
And yes you also know that, the B.tech is for 4 years and the M.tech course is for 5 years,so M.Tech is consuming 1 more year,so it is costing your another one year ,so it will surely return something good amd something extra to you.
Hope it helps
Thank You

hello sagam
iit ropar and iit bhubaneshwar are at same level(2083 and 2091 closing rank of cse general)
so you can choose on the basis of location and your convinience based on your home state.
If you are not keenly interested in cse and can study electrical branch(see the syllabus) as it is a tough branch then you can definitely go with iit hyderabad ee
best of luck
hello avneet
mathematics and computing is a new branch but a branch in great demand. It is a tough branch but has a lot of scope so you will be allowed to sit in placements in cse companies for jobs of data analyst so you can definitely have a look into the syllabus of the branch and opt for computing at iit ropar
Hello
Its all depends upon you interest all iit are best.If you are interested in aerospace or chemical or cse than go for it..its totally depends on you. I suggest to go for IIT Bombay because their placement ,quality of education provided, infrastructure are best among all the IITs...
All fields are good.what matters is having interest in it.
I hope it will help you
Good luck....
Hello Nitin,
All you have to decide is that in which stream, you have more than slightest interest. If there are some chances that you have keen interest or at least just have zeal to know more about it then opt that branch instead of College.
But if the college is more important for you than branch or all branches are same for you like you will study whatever is alloted to you then go for IIT instead of NIT.
All that matters is your choice and decision but still a guideline is provided to you.
Best of luck for your future endeavours!!
