I completed Bsc in physics and I want to do career in merchant navy. What should I do for this?? I am 20 now

Aditi amrendra Student Expert 28th Nov, 2018
Hello,

Admission is done through an entrance exam followed by a screening test and a main written examination of the candidate.
After clearing the test, there is an interview and a medical examination.
You also need to complete a ship-training course prior to the employment. The course is generally short-term where the candidates are taught basic security concerns of voyaging and ships related knowledge.

ruchika.chauhan Expert 23rd Oct, 2018

Hello Ketan,
Indian Maritime University conducts IMU CET exam for admission to for admission into the various courses offered by the campuses of the institute.
According to IMU CET 2019 eligibility criteria, candidate should have qualified class 12th examination with aggregate marks of 60% in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
Also, atleast 50% marks should be secured in English.
Since you have scored 58% in physics, chemistry and Mathematics you just need to score few more marks to be eligible. You can appear for improvement in one or more subjects in which you have scored less marks. Also, you can appear for improvement in the subject in which you are more confident and can score better marks.
It depends on you to appear for the improvement exam in one or more subjects.
Good Luck!

hi iam yuvaraj iam in class 12 iam interested in imu cet but what jobs can i get when i clear that and what is the salary

Pulkit 10th Feb, 2019

Hello Yuvraj,

After clearing IMU CET you'll have to sit for the counselling. Also it depends upon you which department of Merchant Navy you want to join. By doing the courses affiliated to IMU you'll get job in shipping industry. Like if you do Marine Engineering you'll be absorbed as an Engineer on Ships and if you do B.Sc Nautical Science or DNS you'll be absorbed in Deck department of ship whose sole purpose is to Navigate the ship. And if you do Naval Architecture you'll be absorbed in the field of Designing and construction of ships.

So, basically each field has their pros and cons. Salary is also good in this sector but in the starting years you have to work really hard and keep your spirits high always.

Hope this will help . Feel free to ask any query.
