You have already withdrawn your seat and you don't need to question your decision. The branch should be your choice, if you'd have preferred CSE then you should have looked for colleges where you can get it. But if you want mechanical, it is also good and bit is a better college than iem and you took the right decision in that.

I would not be in favour of you to go for the mop up round at all. Many a times it happens that you loose your original seat and you get nothing from your expectations in the mop up round. It's better to take the college you have gotten already. I hope this information was uselful!

Coming to your question the best colleges for the ECE branch will be the YMCA faridabad as it is a good college location wise , placements , faculty etc when compared to the IEM Kolkata

So I will prefer you to go for the YMCA Faridabad over the IEM Kolkata for the ECE branch

It’s been a pleasure being a student of GLAU. Without being unbiased I will give my realistic view about the college. I would like to suggest you IEM rather than that of the other one. Some of my considerable points are mentioned below. 

Placements : The placement record is good. More than 95% students were placed last year with an average package of 5 LPA and the highest package was 15 LPA. Many good companies such as TCS and Infosys visit the college and offer good jobs. The college has its own placement cell which helps students in grabbing job opportunities.

Infrastructure : There are many buildings of this college and every building is well-equipped with modern labs and 24*7 library facility. Medical facilities and sports opportunities are also very good but the hostel is outside the college premises. Also, the hostel rooms are very small and are in bad condition.

Faculty : All the teachers in this college are highly qualified and experts of their own subject. They had a deep knowledge of the subjects and their teaching methods are also very good. Almost all teachers use projector screen to make students understand the topics clearly. The college also provides the opportunity for research and work in industries.

Other : The campus is situated in Salt Lake City with an excellent surrounding. The college regularly organises sports tournaments and technical fests. The institute also gives scholarships to deserving students.

I think you should go for IEM Kolkata, because they have high percentage of placements than Heritage Kolkata. 

Though you said IEM has a bad college life but after all that matter is your success in career and I think the college life is not that bad at all.

So, I think IEM Kolkata is a always a better option than Heritage college.

Institute of Engineering and management will be a better option. It has been ranked higher and is also an affiliated college. Though both are good, IEM has better placements and infrastructure. However, Heritage institute of technology has lower fees and more seats. Hope this helped!
