I m a B.tech graduate and i wanna move to interior designing field . so what should i do? whether i should go for diploma degree or pg degree ? And is it possible to go for pg degree in interior designing course after being from a different field?

Sreeja Siva 20th Sep, 2020
Hi,
There are diploma courses in interior design where the minimum educational qualification is +2 along with other criteria. The eligibility criteria differs according to the institute so you have to check the official website of respective colleges before applying. However for MA or MTech courses a graduate degree in the respective field is preferred. A basic knowledge in designing/ architecture is preferred in pg courses in interior design. All the best.

Need some guidance for starting a career in interior designing. How to start and from where to start.

Ananya Bhowmick 11th Aug, 2020

Hey aspirant,

Go through the following steps -

Step 1: The first thing you want to plan are the types of services you’ll offer. As an interior designer, you want to make sure you’re not taking on more than you can handle.

Step 2:  You should focus on your style & specialty.  If you specialize in mid-century modern style or rustic style or traditional style, that is what you should focus on. Find your niche, find your style, and you’ll attract the right kinds of people.

Step 3: You need to come up with a name for your business. It needs to be catchy, and it needs to reflect your work.

Step 4: You need a website that matches your career. If you don’t have experience building a website, you can hire someone to do the job. It depends upon you.

Step 5: Be ready to fix your rates. Ask your interior designer friends/colleagues. How much do other designers in your area charge? Which art is popular nowadays?

Step 6: You’ll have to promote your website and services, and you need to be active socially.

Step 7: At last one of the smartest things you can do when you start an interior design business is to build good relationships with suppliers and contractors. You want to have connections with reliable people who will deliver exactly what you ask for, on time, every time.

Hope it helps.
