I have an average score in gate2018( 502).. Tell the best option among the following. 1.Mtech in Nits/Iits 2.Ms abroad (Aus).IELTS:7band

Jesin J 15th May, 2019

Hello Saivikas. For doing a masters in engineering, the first thing to be kept in mind is the research facilities, research publications and number of patents of the college, where you are applying. Moreover, your goals also matter while deciding the college. For instance, if you want a job after your masters, go with a college/institute which is more industry oriented. While if you want to continue in research after your masters, go with a college/institute which has more research exposure. Moreover, the faculty profile of the institute should also be kept in mind while applying.

So, whether you choose a IIT/NIT or an abroad institute, do the research of the institute with the points mentioned above in mind.

All the best.

Will good IELTS score help me to get a scholarship to do masters in Canada, Australia, or the USA.

Harshini 8th May, 2019
The answer is yes
IELTS examination is conducted by the British council
And they provide IELTS scholarships for students scoring high marks in IELTS examinations. this scholarships can be used to study at individual institutions which require IELTS examination marks
The amount of scholarships may vary for different countries for different years
in the last year the British council has given 10 scholarships worth 3 lakh each to the students who scored high marks in the IELTS examination
not only British council gives IELTS scholarships, these scholarships can be gained from other organisations such as the fulbright award.
The individual universities like the temple and Oxford also provide scholarships based on IELTS scores

Do universities in the USA, accept IELTS instead of TOFEL? Or is TOFEL compulsory?

Debosmitha Bhattacharyya Student Expert 28th Mar, 2019

Hello Yogita,

Yes, they do. Over 3,000 institutions and programs in the USA accept IELTS scores as proof of English language skills. Minimum score requirement might vary from 6.0 to 9.0 depending on University and major. IELTS results are available just 13 days after the test.

  • Trusted by the USA’s top 25 universities.
  • Accepted by all Ivy League colleges.
  • Used by programs at the top 50 US universities with the most international students.
  • Accepted by Community Colleges.

Unlike 5-6 years ago, IELTS is now widely accepted as proof of English proficiency.  Though still there exist a few top universities or a few departments of the universities that accept only TOEFL.

It is better to check the department website where you wish to apply whether they accept IELTS or not. Just to be safe.

Hope this helps.

Eligilbilty for IELTS..process

priyaankasarkar Student Expert 15th Mar, 2019

Dear Jasmine, there is no such eligibility criteria for IELTS because IELTS is not an entrance examination. It is a Language Proficiency test conducted for admission into foreign univerisites. And this is specifically for non native English speakers who are applying to go abroad either for higher studies or for a career. This test checks various levels of the proficiency of the candidate in English. So once you have decided to take up IELTS, you have to register yourself at their official website. You can book a slot by making a payment. Once you select the date, exam city and time, you make a payment and attend the online exam on the.particular date. So once he results are out, you have to submit these results to the University that you want to take admission in.
