To join ISRO, should I go for B.Tech.(4 years) in Aerospace Engineering or integrated M.Tech. (5 years) in Aerospace Engineering? or should I join IIST for M.Sc.(2 years) in Astronomy and Astrophysics after completing integrated M.Tech.?

priyaankasarkar Student Expert 21st Jul, 2020
There are various levels at which you can join ISRO and at various designations.
After 12th: You can get into IIST (Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology) for their Undergraduate programmes. The admission is based on JEE Advanced scores. Which means you need to have studied Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in 10+2. You can pick any of their 4 year Bachelor programmes like B.Tech in Physical Sciences, B.Tech in Avionics and B.Tech in Aerospace Engineering, etc. Or you can also pick up their 5 year Integrated courses in Master of Science in Astronomy and AstroPhysics, Master of Technology in Earth System Science, Master of Science in Solid State Physics and Master of Science in Optical Engineering, etc.

Opportunities are amazing for academically brilliant candidates. With a CGPA of 7.5 or higher, subject to the availability of vacancies, you get placed in ISRO. Aero and Avio graduates have better prospects even outside ISRO.

After B.Tech: IIST also offers Postgraduate Programmes like:
M.Tech in Soft Computing & Machine Learning
M.Tech in RF & Microwave Engineering
M.Tech in Geo informatics
M.Tech in Optical Engineering
M.Tech in Machine Learning & Computing
M.Tech in Solid State Technology
M.Tech in VLSI & Microsystems
M.Tech in Materials Science & Technology, etc.

Opportunities depend upon ISRO Placements conducted by centralised recruitment committee.

i have now passed class 12th.Should i have to pursue my degree in physics or i have to join engineering to get my job as a scientist in isro?which is the best?

Prajakta Parade 19th Jul, 2020

To become a scientist at ISRO one first needs to have opted Math and Physics as his subjects at 10+2 level and have a thorough basic knowledge of these subjects.

The minimum qualification required to join ISRO is B.Tech. Graduates also have vacancies but very very less in number. ISRO mainly recruits Post graduates like Masters or Ph.D holders from fields of Science, Technology, Applied science, Computer Applications, Commerce, Administration etc. On graduate level, ISRO recruits only engineers i.e. B.E/B.Tech with at least 65% marks throughout the academics.

how can i join isro ? give your opinion

Shivang Dubey 31st May, 2020

Hey Sourab

You can join Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) after your Graduation (mainly B.Tech/B.E.). For that you need to qualify an entrance exam and join a university for a full time Engineering program.

Chances of selection in ISRO increases if you join a reputed and ISRO connected colleges like; IIST, IISER and IISc. If you get admission into them, then your chances of getting absorbed by ISRO is likely to be high. After graduation:

  • You can directly get into ISRO if you have an impeccable academic record from one of the reputed institutions
  • You can clear the recruitment exam after Graduation, which opens vacancy for Engineers/Scientist post. There is a written exam followed by Personal Interview

Manidipa Kundu Student Expert 27th May, 2020

hi,

see isro generally hires for computer engineer, electronics and communication engineers, mechanical engineer, civil, and candidates who have background of msc physics or chemistry, you may do mtech in computer science, then if recruitment comes for computer science candidates you may join isro, however due to covid 19 pandemic there is less chances of hiring in upcoming years in govt sector as well as research organization and psus.
